Do we really need a professional mix? Can’t we just DIY it?
A DIY mix can work, but it usually won’t cut through on playlists or hold up next to the bands you’re inspired by. I make sure your songs sound powerful and competitive while still keeping the raw energy that makes you unique.
Does a better mix actually get us more streams and downloads?
Yes. Listeners decide within seconds if they’ll stick with a track. You want them to think “whoa….”. A strong mix helps your song compete on streaming platforms and keeps fans engaged, which leads to more shares, saves, and streams. If you want it on the top playlists, it has to meet the bar set by both your heroes and contemporaries, if not surpass it.
We don’t have a big budget. Can we afford this?
I know punk and hardcore bands don’t have major label money behind them. That’s why I offer different options to fit different budgets, and I focus on giving you lasting value—your songs will sound great now and years from now. Your recordings will be eternal– so make a mark.
We’ve worked with engineers before who didn’t ‘get’ us. How are you different?
I come from the punk and hardcore world myself, for over 27 years, and I know how these records are supposed to feel. I take the time to understand your vision so your mix feels like you, only bigger and more impactful. But a producer's job is also to translate YOUR vision to something that they simultaneously expect, and are surprised by.
Will a pro mix make our songs sound too polished?
Not at all. My goal isn’t to sterilize your sound—it’s to amplify it. I keep the grit, aggression, and vibe intact, but give it the clarity and punch that makes people want to hit repeat. I also aim for a vibe more than perfection in getting performances from artists. I can always fix tuning or timing in other ways. But I can’t fake the anger, frustration, joy, enjoyment, love, or hate.
